Meet the experienced and friendly doctor who makes Black Bear Eye Care a proud provider of vision care products and services in Luce County.
Derek Dake, O.D., is from Newberry, MI and a 2009 graduate of Newberry High School. He went on to study biology with an emphasis of physiology at Northern Michigan University where he completed his bachelor’s degree.
Upon completion of his undergraduate degree he was accepted into the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University. During his final year of graduate school, Dr. Dake was able to train at Cherry Health – Heart of the City in Grand Rapids, Michigan and John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan where he gained valuable experience managing patients with ocular disease. In 2018, he graduated with his Doctorate of Optometry degree from the Michigan College of Optometry.
Since becoming an optometrist, Dr. Dake provides comprehensive eye exams for adults and children, contact lens fitting, and the management of ocular diseases such as cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eye, and many others.
